Subscription Expired. Time to Renew.

I recently received and email about my subscription expiring on a website I frequent.   There was no question I wanted to renew the subscription.  I didn’t want it to lapse because I use the stuff on that site a lot.  I quickly went to that site and renewed my subscription.

I was reading the Scriptures this morning and came across this verse: 2 Kings 23:3 The king (Josiah) stood by the pillar and renewed the covenant in the presence of the Lord—to follow the Lord and keep his commands, regulations and decrees with all his heart and all his soul, thus confirming the words of the covenant written in this book. Then all the people pledged themselves to the covenant. The Israel nation had let the subscription lapse.  They were busy with a lot of other things.  They really had forgotten the one true God and were worshiping other gods.  If you read the rest of the chapter, King Josiah quickly and ruthlessly deals with the stuff that kept them from renewing their covenant with God.

Sometimes I let other things get in my way of staying close to God.  It really affects my spiritual life when I let other priorities get in the way of following God and being close to him.  Actually when that happens I get real dry spiritually.  That’s the time I need to renew my subscription.  I need to quickly deal with the stuff keeping me from enjoying a fruitful relationship with the God of the universe.  He loves me greatly and wants me to remain close to Him and I want to stay close.  At those times I need to confess to Him where I’ve goofed by putting things ahead of him.  Then I need to renew my commitment to follow him closely, listening to what he’s saying to me and doing the things He wants me to do.

How are you doing on your subscription?  Is it time to renew?  If so, renew now!

Lord, I’m sorry I let other things get ahead of my relationship with you.  Thank you for your forgiveness through your son, Jesus Christ.  Cleanse me and Renew me. I will follow you wholeheartedly.  Help me do so like King Josiah.  Help me influence other to wholeheartedly follow you too.  Amen.
